Drexel is hosting its spring career fair today, April 9. Many students use the career fairs, held every fall and spring, to either do an independent search for a co-op or for a job after they graduate.
Over 220 employers signed up and came to the Daskalakis Athletic Center, a record for the spring event. According to some students, an event like this is really vital for seniors who are about to graduate, in light of the state of the economy:
“I’m surprised to see how many employers are out there, but it is tough in the job market today with the economy how it is.”

Students were urged this week in an event in the quad to donate their shoes for a good cause - to be recycled into turf for playgrounds. The program was created in honor of Earth Day.
The event awarded students with prizes for donating the shoes, which they had to shoot through a basketball hoop and into the donation box. To make the event more of a challenge, assistant men’s basketball coach Jeff Arnold brought some of the basketball team players over to compete as well:
“The problem is, a number of them are better with sneakers than they are with basketballs.”
The shoes will be donated to Nike in a program called Nike Reuse-a-Shoe. They take old sneakers and grind them up and donate the materials to needy communities.
