A robbery suspect was seen running towards the Hagerty library by several students May 15, according to Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detectives Special Investigations Department.
The suspect is described as a six-foot-tall, Dominican man age 20-25 wearing a short-sleeved Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirt. The suspect was last seen jumping over the bushes at the library unarmed, according to Walker.
“We think he’s out of the area right now,” Walker said.
The suspect is one of two men who approached a delivery truck at 4:30 p.m. May 15 on the 500 Block of Hanson St., near Spruce Street between 48th and 49th streets. The men, both armed with a handgun, allegedly stole $65 and fled in a White Infinity traveling east on Chestnut Street.
According to Walker, one man jumped out of the car at 34th Street and fled south, while the other man pulled the car over on 33rd and Chestnut streets and ran toward the library. Walker said both handguns were retrieved.
No Drexel students were involved with the incident, and Drexel Police escorted students out “in a safe fashion,” Walker said. Uniformed officers performed a search of the library grounds on foot and also with canines and determined the suspect was not on the library grounds.
The investigation is still ongoing as of the time of this writing.
