Michael Phelps has dominated the 2008 Beijing Olympics at the Water Cube. After the 200-meter butterfly and the 800 freestyle relay, Phelps became the “greatest Olympian ever” winning the most gold medals of any Olympian (11).
Although his high-school friends joked about seeing his “ugly face” in the pool so much, according to the Daily News, in the span of an hour, he set a world record in the 200-meter butterfly , even though a faulty pair of goggles filled with water during the race , and then came back to lead the first 800 freestyle relay to crack the seven-minute barrier, virtually lapping the rest of the field.
Phelps will go for three more gold medals in his hope to take down the record of Mark Spitz’s seven-gold medal performance 36 years ago.
The finals that Phelps has left are the 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly and the 400 medley relay from Aug 14-Aug 17.
